At Mass, the Sanctus is sung… “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power, God of might, Heaven and Earth are filled with Your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.”

Can anyone tell me who wrote the music for this rendition of the Sanctus? Can anyone recommend a good commercial recording?
Please note, the melody I’m looking for is the one that says, “God of power, God of might,” as opposed to “God of power and might,” or “God of hosts.” My extensive search on the internet, including itunes has turned up empty on this. I must not be plugging in the right words.
Thanks.

If we are going to treat the Sanctus as a song in which we are joining a chorus of the angels and saints in Heaven, I feel that the writer should be known.

The way we sing it at my parish is “God of power and might” and it’s in our hymnal. I believe it’s the St Louis Jesuits version. We’ve also used a Mass of the Celtic Saints that is sung a little differently.

You might ask whoever plays the music at your parish. I’m sure they have sheet music somewhere that gives credit to the composer.

It’s probably Mass of Creation by Haugen.

You can listen to it & see the sheet music as a preview at this website.

We sing it as I bolded.

Will ask the Music Director. I have never asked or wondered, and always heard it like that, in every parish I can recall being at. unless, I was distracted or something… which NEVER HAPPENS:rolleyes:
dontcha know.

We do have a lousy choir, but I will find out what she says. I’ll see her after morning mass tomorrow. She is a Notre Dame grad, so she should know right?

Yes! That is exactly what I was looking for, and even more! I had no idea what a major role Marty Haugen has played in the music of Mass. A year ago, I thought he was just the “Gather Us In,” person. He has since became once of my favorite songwriters, and even moreso now.
Thank You.

Have you tried asking the choir director? How can people on computer boards know what you are singing?
