I remember going to a wedding on a Sunday afternoon that counted as Sunday Mass because the couple marrying specifically followed the Sunday readings so their guests could fulfill the obligation. I think I have read that any mass on Sunday, or any solemnity, must use the readings of the day. There may be a provision to allow one to change one of the readings, but check with the priest.

If by “count” you mean fulfill the Sunday obligation, that is not correct.

Any Mass on Sunday or Saturday evening fulfills the obligation and it has NOTHING to do with the readings used at the Mass.

They had no need to do so, they were simply mistaken regarding the readings having anything to do with fulfilling the obligation.

ANY Sunday Mass or Saturday Vigil fulfills the obligation.

There are complex rules regarding weddings on Sundays. They might be required to use the Sunday readings but even if they break the rules and don’t, it still counts.

Not correct. Any Mass in any Catholic rite on the preceding evening or the day of the feast (Sunday or Holy Day) fulfills the obligation. Readings aren’t the deciding factor, but the Mass must take place in the “evening” (seems to be about 4 pm as designated in most dioceses.) This is according to Canon 1248.

As already indicated several times, the readings and texts have nothing to do with the fulfillment of the obligation. All that is needed is for it to be a Catholic Eucharistic liturgy in any rite, and in the evening.

Again, it doesn’t matter if the readings are the same, its the timing of the Mass that fulfills the Sunday obligation.
