I attended a mass in one of the parishes here in SW Florida. During the washing of the hands of the priest in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the priest said “thank you” to the guy pouring the water. I don’t even know if this guy was a extra ordinary minister or what because he was just wearing shorts! What a real shame being there in the altar!
Anyways, is the priest allowed to add something like “thank you” to the words which is only to be said in liturgy in the Roman Missal? I know it may sound being courteous but is it allowed really?
Further, during the elevation of the host after the consecration where the priest will say “though Him, with Him, in Him…”, the priest encouraged the people to say those words altogether. Isn’t the priest only allowed to say that (not even the deacon is allowed to say that) and the people should only reply with a resounding AMEN? I mean, there is a widespread abuse of the Liturgy in the Church here in America. And ops, they even use glass bowls to hold the host for distribution in communion. Whew, we really need to correct those abuses.
