My own pastor had to write in the newsletter and our Facebook page (and send out an email) after someone claiming to be him started emailing parishioners.
I seem to recall seeing a notice in one or more bulletins or on one or more church websites, stating that no one from the parish or diocese is ever going to be contacting people asking them to buy gift cards, and any such message that parishioners get is a scam and ignore it.
