So I guess whilst my OP was a rant now its more of a question why is that so many of us choose to cast the first stone in the name of ‘righteousness’?
Because this is a Catholic board. If you come on here to ask about the morality of a particular action then you’re going to get Catholc answers. Yes, some here deliver the message more charitably than others, but the answer will be the same, for the most part.
You started the thread as a rant, as you acknowledged, but missed your own point. YOU note that you know what God wants and you make your own decisions, then leave it to God to determine whether or not your decision pleases Him. If it doesn’t, and you kinda figured it wouldn’t, you note that you hope to make a confession to make things right later on.
Well, we Christians can’t bank on later on, that’s just it. People who jump on you immediately to say STOP! no matter what the extenuating circumstances you’re facing are looking at the situation as if you were to get hit by the banana truck as soon as you leave the computer and walk out the door.
We are blessed with the sacrament of reconciliation but should never ‘fall back’ on that gift when faced with decisions. With regard to your decision to not cohabitate, you did so because you knew the teachings and you chose to apply them to your life. Wonderful! But what if you had chosen not to apply it? You seem to be saying that was your choice and no one else has the right to call you on making it. But you’re here on a Catholic board, you state you know the teaching and would then state you chose not to follow it. THAT is the scandal people here talk about. When you are informed and still choose the wrong path, then
you bring scandal into your life. It’s not that people are passing judgement on your actions, you are putting forth a scandal for all to see but get upset when the child says the emperor has no clothes.
It is what it is, I guess. Why get upset with the people who call the situation as it is? We do it not out of righteousness, but out of love. If we keep quiet and you died tomorrow in a state of sin because of your choice, we carry a part of the burden there. The Lord blessed us in confirmation with wisdom, fortitude, fear of the Lord and all those other gifts we are to call upon to be strong in the face of challenges. Well, when asked an opinion if we choose to keep mum because we don’t want to appear judgemental or hurt the other person’s feelings then where’s the courage?
