Hi all:

I am so confused about scapulars. Can you guys give me some insight?

I love the idea of certain scapulars and would be interested in wearing one myself (especially the smaller medal). How does one discern what scapular to wear and how do you go about receiving one.

Also, any history would help too!

Thanks

More specifically… can the scapular medal be worn instead of the white scapular of the Holy Trinity? I am also having trouble getting directions on being invested with the white scapular.

I am not familiar with the White Scapular. I wear the Brown Scapular (the one that most people are familiar with :o ), but as far as the medal goes, you must first be enrolled with the wool scapular, and then you may wear the medal (so long as it is not for a vain reason.)

what do you mean “vain reason”?

i wear the MM on a gold chain so is that vain?

If you like the way the sacpular medal looks more than the wool one and chose to wear it for that reason, that could be considered a vain reason.

However, in your case, wearing the Miraculous Medal on a gold chain doesn’t necessarily make it a vain reason - it could be because you want to honor Mary and so you thought gold was fitting. However, if you chose the gold for the “bling” factor (lol), that would be a vain reason.

But I don’t think it matters so much with the Miraculous Medal as it does with the Scapular.
