I have been wearing the Brown Scapular for a couple of years now. I have never been enrolled or had it blessed. Is this required in order to obtain benefits of this. Thanks

Yes, actually, it is. Here it is.
fatima.org/essentials/requests/invest.asp

In order to obtain the graces and promises received from wearing the Scapular, one should wear it devoutly. In other words, under the usual conditions, i.e. state of grace (Go to Confession regularly!!), be properly invested/enrolled by a Catholic priest, pray either the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary or 5 decades of the Most Holy Rosary daily. Novenas to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel are optional but highly recommended to show the Mater Dei that we Her most lowly and undeserving servants have faith in Her most powerful protection and intercession.

Fatima.org isn’t a good place for any information. The website is associated with Nicholas Gruner, a suspended priest for his views on Fatima. Recently Fr. Gruner died—God rest his soul. :gopray:

jrecortel in post #4 has cited the official catechesis of the Carmelites for both orders-Ancient Order and Discalced. This is the best place for any information on the Brown Scapular.

No. Here’s the official cathechesis on the brown scapular:
carmelitanacollection.com/catechesis.php
Correct site. This catechesis clearly teaches that even if one devoutly wears the scapular even if not enrolled, he still has an affiliation with the spirituality of the Carmelites as such, is still a medium of grace and a sharing of spiritual goods with the Carmelite family.

The “Whosoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire” and the so-called Sabbatine privilege are NOT the primary ends of the Scapular devotion.
