When my mom was a teen she went to a non Catholic Church, but it was Christian. She saw a bunch of people supposedly get exorcised by some of the main Christians there. She went home and told her dad. She then said she felt like she wasn’t there and far away. The next thing she knew her dad telling her that she was screaming funny. Her dad told the demon to get out of her and cussed at it. He said it left.

If my mom had been possessed, would this have kept the demon out of her? It couldn’t have been in her all those years, could it? She is in her forties now. I am just wondering because sometimes I think about what she told me and it is frightening.

In the Gospels there is an account of a man driving out demons in Christ’s name, though he doesn’t follow Jesus. The Apostles ask what they should do about him, but Jesus says to leave him alone. No one does things like driving out demons without God. So it sounds like, if it were truly a demonic posession, ger father was granted the power to exorcise it.

As for a demon remaining in possession of a person, I don’t think it would be possible for it to simply lie dormant for 40 years. Demons hate everything that we are, because we were created by God. Those that possess humans will torture them terribly, both physically and spiritually. If your mother acts like a normal, well-adjusted person, I’d say any demon that might have been there before is gone now.

The best thing to do is make sure you have received Christ, then a demon can’t take residence. A demon can’t overpower Christ. Don’t ever give the devil a “foothold” by immoral living or straying from Jesus.

**John 1
**12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- 13children born not of natural descent,1] nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

**Ephesians 4
**26"In your anger do not sin"1] : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. 28He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

I am not so scared anymore. My mom is a very well-adjusted person. I guess I was just worried for no reason after all. I will definitely receive Jesus as often as I can.
