Scripture Story about animals born with mark

I was asked by someone in the Bible Study I lead if I knew where in the Bible the story about placing cuts on a stick and then putting the stick into their flocks water. Afterwards animals born of the flock would have a mark, these animals were then given by the owner to the man. Does anyone recall where this story is in Scripture.

Sounds like a story related about Jacob in Genesis 30:25-43.
