I’m interested in Scripture passages that deal with the “how” of determining what is true.

For example, Matthew 7:16’s “By their fruits you will know them.”

Or (a little more outside the box) when Jesus teaches you can tell that who a person serves is not who he casts away in Matthew 12:26.

What are some others???

Listen to the bishops of the Church: Hebrews 13:17. The discernment of the truth is a proper function of the Magisterium of the Church, the bishops in union with the pope: Matthew 16:19; 18:17-18; Acts 15:1-35; 16:4; Ephesians 4:11-16.

Don’t know if I’d use Matt 7:16. That would seem to say that an individual’s piety or the piety of a group determines the truth of their beliefs. One should remember that there are sinners in the church. And some of us are very bad sinners.
