I suffer from scrupulosity and a lack of joy. I have much to be joyful about and love the faith but just don’t seem to have any joy. Any suggestions? Thanks!
First and foremost, make an appointment with a priest and talk to him about it. He can give you more help than anyone on this board, and if he can’t do it himself he likely knows another priest who can. Secondly, you might try reading Scrupulous Anonymous at http://scrupulousanonymous.org/. I don’t agree with every piece of advice that they give, but in general they do offer some pretty good insight. If you have the type of scrupulosity that makes confession difficult, then I would also recommend Scruples and their Treatment by Fr. William Doyle (SCRUPLES AND THEIR TREATMENT). That article was by far the most helpful for me, and I find myself rereading it often.
As someone with scruples, I know how that feels. A lot of my days (especially the weekends) are rather full of worry and it’s horrid. I’ll pray for you!
And definitely consult a priest.
