Seasonal decorating of a home shrine?

A while back I was on another site and someone mentioned how his Catholic grandparents who lived in Germany (Bavaria) in the 1930s and 1940s decorated their home shrine according to season; spring flowers, autumn leaves etc

Has anyone else heard of this tradition/custom?
 
It might not be a tradition or custom, but I can definitely see myself doing that if I had a home shrine. It is like putting seasonal flowers on the altar at church. 🙂
