I was reading about Bl Solanus Casey and saw on this website that in the canonisation process the second miracle has to take place after the beatification date:

https://solanuscasey.org/about-us/the-cause-for-sainthood/learn-more-about-the-steps-to-sainthood

This is the first time I’ve heard about that so was wondering if anyone has more information as to why that is?

Also does anyone know of a Vatican resource which gives details about the miracles for beatification/canonisation of any given saint? I know a lot of that information will be lost to history but would be interesting to see that information for saints that have been canonised in the last say 100 years.

To confirm that the person is in Heaven and that God wills them to become a saint.
It used to be a lot more miracles were required than just 2 (or 1 for a martyr).

I’m not aware of any Vatican resource discussing miracles, but you can often find some discussed in news articles or books about the saints, sometimes even in Wiki articles. At one shrine I attended a retreat and the lady who had been miraculously cured by the saint whose shrine it was spoke to our group and told the whole story of her illness and cure.

I’m venturing a guess that it’s somehow related to the “proof” as the devotion to the individual is officially expanded. Prior to beatification, the Church considers devotions to be localized, not universal.

There’s a ton of good info., both expert-level and colloquial/anecdotal, on our Archdiocesan website documenting our own St. Mother Theodore (St. Theodora) who was canonized in 2006.

Thank you both. Cor_ad_cor that would make sense that it would prove that the devotion is not just local.

I was just a little surprised when I read that as I know it can take years to verify all the medical evidence and to make sure there is no relapse (in certain cases), so it seemed strange that any other miracles being investigated that happened before the beatification date would be set aside.
