Secular Institutes

I feel I have a calling from God. I have been searching different avenues. I just found out about secular institutes. I had never heard of them before. But basically you take the vows of poverty, chasity, and obedience but you live our your vocation in the world. It sounds wonderful. Has anyone else thought about going in this direction? First and foremost, they are a wonderful gift of God for His Church and for all His people. They achieve beautiful things for the glory of God and for the salvation and enrichment of souls.

For those called to this specific avenue of consecrated life, they provide the fulfillment for realising that call from the Lord by which the person attains that fulfilment to which He has called them.

The secular institutes add new facets to the multifaceted aspects of the Church’s institutes of perfection.

Each secular institute is unique…to understand them and to discern if one might be your path, you would have to reach out and come to know them and for them to come to know you, since discernment is a mutual process.

I should add that there are also the new ecclesial movements, which continue to evolve and which have a status that is not as readily defined as secular institutes. An excellent example of the latter would be the Focolare.
