Battle against secularism is priority for Christians says Cardinal:

Preaching at the annual Whithorn pilgrimage yesterday, Cardinal Keith O’Brien called on Scotland’s Christians to fight;

“a constant battle against secularism” which he described as “an almost rising tide in the world of today almost submerging us with its volume and its power.”

Cardinal O’Brien added;

“It is surely the task of the Christian journeying along the way with and to Christ to say:
“Any standards just will not do! We must follow and maintain the standards of Jesus Christ and try to spread them in the Church and in the world of today”.”

The full text of Cardinal O’Brien’s homily is shown below.

Do your priests or bishops speak out against secularism?

Secularism is one of the greatest challenges we (faithful christians) face today. There’s a concerted effort to wipe out all traces of religion from the culture. Secularism is self-indudgent, relativistic, atheistic, and materialist and left unchecked will ultimately lead to self-destruction. We need to pray for a return to christian values and moral before it’s too late.

And we have the bankruptcy courts to show for it. I’ve seen too many people waste away on credit they can’t pay, consolidating their mortgage for pay off debt at intrests rates of a loan shark losing all of its equity.

Secularism is actually a religion, an agnostic religion that hides itself beneath a facade of “tolerance”, yet is highly intolerant of contrary ideas like Christianity. They pretend to preach freedom of religion, but in reality they are pushing for freedom from religion, which is not freedom at all.

As an example, see how they are pushing for the removal of the word “God” from the motto “In God we trust”.
