In todays e-mail Karl used “sedevacantist” when talking about Mel Gibson. I can not find it in my dictionary. Please advise.

It’s a person that holds that the Chair of Peter is vacant. In essence, that the current Pope is not a valid Pope.

vacante = empty

A sedevacantist is a person who believes the papacy is or was unoccupied; more specifically, that a particular pope is or was not a legitimate pope.
 
Does Mel consider himself to be a Roman Catholic sans Rome or is he of another (legitimate or schismatic) Catholic sect?

Some hold that there hasn’t been a valid Pope since Pius XII, other sects of Sedevacantists have elected their own Popes since then. I believe there are three of these Popes in this country. Karl Keating recieved a letter from one of them a few years back. These Popes don’t like Catholic Answers very much.
 
So Mel Gibson doesn’t believe that our Pope is the Pope? :confused:
