Seeing performance tonight.. 21+

I am planning on going to a restaurant tonight with a few of my friends to watch a music performance. The only problem is the fact that after 9 PM, it is 21+ and I am only 17 (my friends are 17 and 18). However, I’ve been to one of these same performances before, however I did not know it was 21+ until my friend told me shortly after arriving there. We were not asked for an ID or questioned about our age at any point, so we thought it was fine. I don’t think the waiters who served us and passed by us minded at all. I am simply confused as to whether going to watch this performance tonight is any sort of sin, now that I know it’s 21+ beforehand. Drinking is definitely not an issue, as my friends and I would never do that at our age, and because we would need IDs anyway. Plus, we plan on going a half hour or so early so we can order food.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you should check with the restaurant before going there. I would assume that their 21+ policy is due to the fact that they want customers to consume and spend money during the entertainment period. At that time of the evening and in that kind of establishments usually people mainly consume alcohol and not food thus the 21+ rule. The 21+ rule could be set by some local regulations and not by the owners of the business.

I would call them and let them know what you plan to consume dinner there and that you would like to know if the 21+ rule applies to restaurant customers that purchase food only.

I think that trying to circumvent the 21+ rule is sinful. However, if you have a good reason to believe (e.g. checking with the owners) that it does not apply to you, then it is a different story.

Thank you for your response! I called the restaurant, and the person said that we may come in before 9, we can order food and watch a bit of the performance, but we need to leave after we finish eating. I am A-OK with this!

I am glad that you followed a reasonable path. I just want to add one more comment.

You should chew every bite of food at least 27 times if you want to live in a healthy way. Chewing that much could make your dinner a little bit longer than expected thus having to listen to more music.
