Is it true that if seek first the kingdom of a God then all else will be given or is this just a metaphor?

It’s hard to make time to pray with so many financial stressors and even when I do pray,it sometimes seems like Jesus can’t reach me or doesn’t help my circumstances and I don’t know how to have trust in Jesus.
Too many problems currently, financial worries ,miscommunications and lack of harmony with sister, health issues…

Maybe some things are just beyond God.

Good morning. Thank you for sharing. Spend time in silence of the adoration chapel. At least in the morning first thing while all is calm and quiet, sit in silence in your favorite spot inside your home. Wonderful way to start your day and as those little fights come up you will find your reaction to those will gradually be more controlled and you will think about it differently. Gratitude removes bitterness. I had to learn that when I pray to GOD for patience, He assists me in that He sets up opportunities for me to practice. No spiritual lesson would I learn if it were just granted to me. Peace be with you

Nothing is beyond God.

Here’s the verse to which you are referring (Matt. 6:33):

"Make it your first care to find the kingdom of God, and his approval, and all these things shall be yours without the asking."

Seeking first the Kingdom of God means just that – seeking first the Kingdom of God.

If one seeks the Kingdom of God in order to receive material gain, then that person isn’t actually seeking the Kingdom of God.

Now look at the verse in context (Matt. 6:25-34)

"I say to you, then, do not fret over your life, how to support it with food and drink; over your body, how to keep it clothed. Is not life itself a greater gift than food, the body than clothing?
See how the birds of the air never sow, or reap, or gather grain into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them; have you not an excellence beyond theirs?
Can any one of you, for all his anxiety, add a cubit’s growth to his height?
And why should you be anxious over clothing? See how the wild lilies grow; they do not toil or spin;
and yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
If God, then, so clothes the grasses of the field, which to-day live and will feed the oven to-morrow, will he not be much more ready to clothe you, men of little faith?
Do not fret, then, asking, What are we to eat? or What are we to drink? or How shall we find clothing?
It is for the heathen to busy themselves over such things; you have a Father in heaven who knows that you need them all.
Make it your first care to find the kingdom of God, and his approval, and all these things shall be yours without the asking.
Do not fret, then, over to-morrow; leave to-morrow to fret over its own needs; for to-day, to-day’s troubles are enough.

(I recommend reading ALL of Matthew chapter 6 – an absolutely beautiful lesson on having one’s heart in the right place with regard to prayer, trust, service, and the needs of life.)

I can totally understand having a difficult time in prayer when I’m stressed about life. In those moments, I intentionally turn my prayers into a whine-fest. I pour out my worries and failures and fears to God. I tell Him how hard it is for me to trust. If I’m angry that I feel like I’m not getting any help, I tell Him that as well.

These prayers – pouring out everything to God, including my big, bad, ugly attitude – have really helped me more than I can say.

So pray. Converse with God. Open your heart to Him with what is actually in your heart. Storm heaven with your concerns. And if you can’t seek first the Kingdom of God at this point, tell Him that, too.

God bless you abundantly.

With God, all good things are possible. With great faith and trust in God, mountains can be moved. Jesus said ‘when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?’

With the Kingdom of God as center it provides the greater context for anything else se even if we don’t get what we want we accept it more easily and with gratitude.

This might sound bad,but I’ve always had doubts about the bible verses that talk about God providing because,in reality, while the birds may have food and homes there are people homeless whom it seems God isn’t providing for them.

Perhaps it is my misunderstanding of these verses that is the problem?

There are homeless people . And Jesus taught that one of things his followers would be judged on was their sheltering of the homeless .

God is expecting Christians to shelter the homeless , to feed the hungry etc . There are plenty of resources for doing it . But Christians are too happy doing “churchy” things to be bothered about taking Jesus seriously . And that includes me . And we wonder why the Church and the world is in such a mess .

Very well said and sad reality.
The positive side though is that you have self awareness and care about it,whereas many other people are just indifferent (go to church and love God and then not love/help their neighbor).
