Hi,
I’m looking for a saint book to give to the fellow I’m sponsoring, and I would appreciate some suggestions as I haven’t seen many that fit the bill. It doesn’t need to have a ton of saints in it. What’s most important for this fellow, I think, is to have a variety of inspiring true stories of holiness, charity, and devotion to the sacraments.

Any ideas?

Not a saint’s book but what about Imitation of Christ, Thomas a Kempis, that was one of those “wow” books for me. Otherwise, other inspiring saints are St. John Vianney - there’s a book out called Little Catechism of the Cure d’Ars - wonderful, or for a more gentle spirituality, St. Therese’s “Story of a Soul”.

We have often recommended James Martin’s book My Life with the Saints. It is part biographical and part lives of Fr Martin’s favorite saints. Before he entered the Jesuits he really had no interest in the saints and he writes about how he come to know and love saints. He only writes about his favorite saints (and a few who are not yet saints) but the stories are engaging and our RCIA catechumens and candidates love the book and it encourages them to read more about the saints.
