**Senate Democrat Boxer May Filibuster John Roberts Over Abortion

**Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – **Pro-abortion Sen. Barbara Boxer of California says she will filibuster the nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court if he does not say he is in favor of upholding the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized unlimited abortions. Roberts is expected to be asked about Roe during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings September 6.
Boxer said that she will both vote against Roberts and bring Senate activity to a halt if she doesn’t get satisfactory answers to her questions about Roberts’ abortion views.

“I need to know exactly where he will stand, and I need to know if he will fight to protect and defend the rights and freedoms of the American people,” Boxer told reporters at a pro-abortion rally at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

“If I don’t believe he will [back abortion], I won’t vote for him,” she added.

Boxer is interested in Roberts’ writings in legal briefs for the Bush administration in which he indicated Roe v. Wade was bad law and should be overturned.

If he declines to answer the questions, Boxer will “use all the parliamentary tools I’ve been given as a U.S. senator” including procedures that "make it difficult for other business to get done until we get the information we need.’’

Boxer claimed if Roberts opposes Roe and is approved for the high court, America will go back “to the days of back-alley illegal abortions.”

"We cannot go back to those dark days,’ she said. “Judge Roberts cannot duck this issue.”

The comments are a repeat of those Boxer and other pro-abortion Democratic women made last month pledging to oppose Roberts if he doesn’t support abortion. nat1494.html

When asked by reporters, none of the seven Democrats said they would vote for Roberts if he said he opposed Roe. Boxer indicated it would be “impossible” for the group to vote for him.

Sean Rushton, director of the Committee for Justice, a group that backs Roberts, said the women’s views amounted to a litmus test.

“This is a single-issue litmus test that strikes at the heart of an independent judiciary,” he told the Washington Times. “It proves that the Democratic Party is increasingly focused solely on the issue of abortion on demand. Their greatest fear is a nonpolitical judge who will read the law as it’s written.”

How did the Democrats become so dependent on the pro-abortion lobby?

Now - Do the Republicans have the guts to stand up to her and outlast her?

Joe:

It isn’t just Barbara Boxer - It’s a bunch of other Democrats who realize that the Pro-Abortion groups write their checks and provide their activists and that they can’t win elections without them.

It’s also a bunch of Senate Democrats who are now setting up the predicate to do what they supposedly agreed not to, which is to FILIBUSTER A JUDICIAL NOMINEE (they didn’t - they left open a loophole, and they’re trying to say that it exists here).

Remember, many of these people and their supporters believe that the “Crime of Florida 2000” was worse than what was done to this country when 3,200 of their fellow citizens were slaughtered on 9/11/2001. and, Many of these believe that the election of 2004 was stolen, too, because the ACTUAL election results differed from the biased EXIT POLLS!

Because of the above, these people are going to use every dirty trick they can think of, no matter what normal decorum and precedent might indicate.

I think we can remind the DEMOCRATS of the precedent of Ruth Bader Ginsburg who was far more left than Roberts is Right, and had been the chief lawyer for the ACLU, and still did not get FILIBUSTERED by the Republicans.

Then we need to remind the REPUBLICANS that they have to stand for Principle and for the President of their Party, and that, if they aren’t, they might as well go back to the country club.

And maybe remind Sen. Frist to “CALL THE QUESTION” and not let some runaways hijack the proces and force Justice O’Conner the Second on us.

With the exception of Jim Jeffords,I think you should send these people e-mails AFTER e-mailing the Senators from your states. If we can get even 5 of the the people above to ABANDON the FILIBUSTER, we can break the FILIBUSTER!

And, Yes! It is that important. This is the chance to get someone in who will Overturn Roe v. Wade in spite of what the “Republican 7” and their Democratic friends did!

Blessed are they who act to save God’s Little Ones, Michael

Traditional Ang… This is the chance to get someone in who will Overturn Roe v. Wade in spite of what the “Republican 7” and their Democratic friends did!

I agree, never accept a win until it is won and then make sure it isn’t taken back.

Not so down on the “Republican 7” as you are however. More and more I think it was a GOP way to give Democrats a way to save face with their base. What did Democrats get out of the deal? Nothing. What did the GOP get? Judges confirmed who had been blocked for years. I never thought liberals would ever allow Janice Rogers Brown on the Federal Bench.

GOP won something else. The “nuclear option” the media keep screaming about is no longer an issue. At least not now. That was grabbing too much attention which should have been directed elsewhere.
