I know divorce is wrong in the catholic religion but can you seperate from your spouse?

Are you talking about permanently…or for maybe a couple of days to think things over and seek spiritual guidance in order to strengthen your marriage…what kind of separation are you talking about? In addition, while separated, I assume you both plan to keep your vows in place, which means you must remain celebant according to your state in life…in you and your spouse’s case, you would still be married to each other…there are a lot of factors to look at.

There are specific reasons which would legitimately allow a spouse to seperate, and there are also reasons that the church would not consider divorce “wrong.” I suggest you take your issues to an orthodox Catholic Priest to discuss. We in this forum are not competent authorities and only give our biased opinions.

In the CCC paragraph 1649 speaks to congugal seperation.
paragraph 2383 speaks to reasons for divorce…quite briefly.

Again, discuss this with a competent priest.

one can separate from the spouse for good reason, such as to escape abuse, protection of the children, and can even obtain a civil divorce for good reason, such as to protect home and other assets, insure support of the children etc. What you cannot do is separate for selfish or frivolous reasons “I want to find myself, we are growing apart, I need some space”.

What a Catholic also cannot do is remarry following divorce, unless and until the first marriage has been investigated by the canon law tribunal of the diocese and decree of nullity has been issued. Nor can a Catholic shack up with somebody else after divorce, or even begin a romantic relationship.

One should not take this step without pastoral counselling, and you will be advised to take every means possible to preserve the marriage, including counselling, marriage encounter, retrouvaille etc. If you parish offers no help call the Family LIfe Office or Catholic Social Services in your diocese for referrals.

again, wrong forum for a marriage question, should be in liturgy and sacraments.
