I’ve got a good friend who spent time pursuing becoming a nun. At this point, she’s treading water, possibly giving up on the idea.

I’m keen to see her do this; this would suit her to a T.

Any tips or suggestions? I’ve given her my advice, suggestions and insights. And sure, I pray. But there’s a stubbornness there or obstinacy.

My advice? Remind her of the reasons she felt called in the first place. However, remember that it’s called “discernment” for a reason. It may simply be that, though she felt drawn to the lifestyle for some reason or other, God is making it clearer to her what He really has in mind for her life. Either way, the best thing you can do, in my opinion, is to support your friend in whatever decision she ends up making.

Hi Maxply,
Why don’t you consider the vocation for yourself?
Maybe God is calling you through your friend’s giving up. You seem to value the call very much …
Why don’t you give it a thought and see how it feels?
Praying for you and your friend 👍
