I know that some Orthodox do not receive the Eucharist if they have a cut, because they believe that when you recieve the Eucharist, Christ’s actual blood runs through your veins, and that bleeding would be bleeding out Christ’s blood. Does the Catholic Church teach this? I’ve had some sinus problems lately and sometimes the mucous has blood in it. I’ve been afraid to recieve the Eucharist because of this. Hopefully someone here can help me.

From my understanding- the only thing that should stand in the way of you and the Eucharist is the state of your soul (if you’ve comitted a mortal sin).

The Catholic Church does not teach that. You can receive Holy Communion even if you are bleeding.

As a matter of interest, do the Orthodox forbid menstruating women to receive?

I’ve been told that the Divine Presence departs once the material of the Host has dissolved into the body. This would occur before the Host has gone fully down the throat, never mind into the blood.

Ergo, bleeding is not an issue.
