Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Anyone who’s had difficulty with St. Louis De Montfort’s writing, will appreciate this article which begins thus:
Frank Duff reveals his thoughts on The True Devotion to Mary
Sometimes the True Devotion is viewed as a fad, but it is anything but that. The false idea is ministered to by the language of extreme devotion which is De Montfort’s speciality. Sometimes he does appear to be speaking in terms of excess, but it is vital to recognise that there is no theological excess in his propositions. The notable fact that the new Holy Father should at the outset of his reign proclaim himself a follower of that Devotion should be enough to demonstrate this.

However, the circumstances that so many do not take it up, and that many are found who are opposed to it, is evidence that it presents certain difficulties and that it has to be explained. Perhaps I am in a good position myself for attempting that task because every possible difficulty presented itself to me when originally I came in touch with De Montfort’s book. I think that these obstacles would normally have prevailed but things of an unusual character peremptorily intervened to reverse the balance…

Dear Tis_Bearself,

Thanks so much, for your reply and for your prayers for the Beatification of the Servant of God Frank Duff, founder of the Legion of Mary – the largest lay apostolate in the Catholic Church – with some 3 million Active members and 10 million Auxiliary members, all over the world, in almost every country.

We pray a novena at all our Legion Meetings for his beatification but I was told recently that the process is longer when there are a lot of writings and Frank Duff’s correspondence was huge. It would be so good to see his cause move forward because it would be an encouragement for the laity not only to rekindle their devotion to Mary, but to better understand that we are all called to the apostolate of the Church by our Baptism.

There are three members of the Legion whose causes have been introduced in Rome: Servant of God Frank Duff, Venerable Edel Quinn (whom Mr. Duff sent to Africa to begin the Legion there) and Alphonsus Lamb ( who was sent to Latin America to begin the Legion there). All very beautiful lives which can be read in brief HERE

Dear luciavento,

Thanks so much for your reply and the link to the Legion website for the great state of Ohio! It was wonderful to read all the names of the Praesidia in the different parts of your state. We haven’t as many in our state. You can see the difference when you compare the website from your link with ours HERE

Nevertheless, our little Praesidium, Queen of Peace, has been prayerfully seeking to honor Jesus through Mary for 11 years now. God has provided a holy Deacon who has served as our Spiritual Director the entire time.

We read St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on “True Devotion” as our weekly spiritual reading at our meetings and several members consecrated themselves totally. I had already made my Act of Total Consecration as Junior Legionary when I was in a Catholic High School in NY. I think the Legion is far better known up North than down South. We are encouraging our Auxiliary members to read “True Devotion” and also gave them the Link to Frank Duff’s article.

Have many members in your praesidia read De Montfort and begun to live their Total Consecration? Have you? I’d be so grateful to hear more of your experience with the Legion of Mary. YAY!!! More soldiers in Mary’s Legion to battle against the forces of evil for Christ the King and His Queen Mother!
