I am addicted to porn:blush: my wife of five years is terminally ill and sex my my wife, whom I cherish is a thing of the past.In my twisted logic I feel that masturbating to online porn is less of a sin than being unfaithful to my wife.I know it is a sin yet I continue to go on.I feel that sharing my very private thoughts with my fellow Catholics would do me some good.I have a very strong sexual drive…God help me to be a fraction as strong as our saviour:o

I’m very sorry to hear this. I wish you all the best and offer my prayers.

However, your “justification” for masturbation is poor. It may be less of a sin than adultery, but it’s only in the sense that stealing $10 is less of a sin than stealing $20. The fact that I didn’t steal $20 doesn’t justify stealing the $10; in the same way the fact that you don’t commit adultery doesn’t justify your masturbation.

Masturbation is a serious struggle for many catholic men and you can find resources to help you with this. I’m sure other posters can point you in the right direction.

every mortal sin is an infinite offense against God. 😦 seek a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin

I also have this addiction with Pornography, but i am moving away from it very fast and don’t plan to go back. I just pray to God to help me and Jesus is always with us so i ask myself, should i do this while Jesus is with me? The answer is no, so i stop.

I agree with people say all mortal sin is a grave offense to God. However, sometimes I think we hype up the level and gravity of our sin. When we elevate our sin in this matter sometimes we come “impressed” by our sin. In this state, we become susceptable to turning away from God because we feel like our sin is so impressive that we do not deserve God’s love. This could be bad advice but when sexual impurity has overtaken me - this was a piece of advice helped to “mock the devil” so to speak.

Best Regards,

Thomas

I think the ideal is seeing the absolute gravity of our sin, but instead of despairing, trusting in God’s mercy 🙂 I think one of the devil’s tricks is to first tempt us to sin by making the sin seem “not so bad”, and then afterwards, tempt us to despair by suggesting we can’t be forgiven. Both are false.

Hello. I use to be addicted to porn and masturbation. Remember my friend, God can help you with anything. Say prayers to Mary, God will always love you. He will get you threw this. Don’t worry, always have faith. I did and now I am a converted Catholic. God can help. Remember that! God Bless!

PLEASE READ:

My prayers are with you, brother. You’ll notice that most comments making the, “Your justification is poor” argument will center their argument around breaking GOD’S RULES. -Which isn’t mundane, but seems mundane in the heat of passion. After all, we hurt God all the time with our sins, He’s used to it. Atleast, that’s what we tell ourselves. However, you don’t need to think about “just God” but also your WIFE. When I fell in love with my angel and life-love, I realized my attraction to other women ceased. I suddenly felt guilted every time I saw pornography or another attractive woman. I realized adultery is not the same thing as foreinication. Foreinication is pre-marital sex, but ADULTERY is having sex with someone who is married but is not your spouse, or BEING married but having sex with someone who isn’t your spouse! This is why Jesus said, “If you even so much as look at a woman to lust after her, you have committed adultery in your heart.” You see, it’s the MINDSET that is hurtful, not just the act! It is HURTFUL to think that your spouse would turn to someone or something other than YOU for sexual gratification. This is why Jesus ALSO said, “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” If YOU were terminally ill, you would feel guilty and useless because you can’t sexually please your spouse, and have to sit back as she masturbates to some other guy’s long-john on a pornography website! It’s something to think about, isn’t it? I’m not trying to guilt-trip you, it’s just that this is the self-critiquing method I use whenever I feel tempted. I have always been highly impressed with Jesus’ morally-revolutionary philosiphy…

If you truly, truly can’t help yourself, try thinking about having sex with your wife rather than watch pornography when you masterbate. Atleast you won’t have adultery in your heart, brother. May God bless you and keep you. You may also wish to try looking up this doctor, “Issam Nemeh.” He is known for miraculous healings, EVEN WITH TERMINAL ILLNESS. Maybe he can help you: drnemeh.com/

Good luck, and God bless!! 😉

Yes…St John of the Cross spoke of this. His advice?..humbly confess your sin in a simple and contrite fashion, then move on…get over it…get over your SELF!
