I’m sorry, I was making a comment about historical thinking with relevance to this thread, I wasn’t delivering a university lecture on the history of thinking in the church. I could spend my morning gathering sources and writing them up - but you could look it up too - if you’re so sure I’m talking out of my backside, which from the tone of your questions, you do!!
I already cited the summae confessorum which was a 13th century document from which my last quote came. Then you can look up this:

Read the book by James Brundage and look at his sources, and then you can decide for yourself whether or not you believe the evidence.
I get the impression you don’t WANT to believe this church history…I apologise if I’m wrong - you may be a lecturer yourself and be a stickler for bibliographies.

I don’t know why on earth my ‘view’ of history is interesting…what is your ‘view’ then?
I have no credentials…on re-reading my post I suppose you took it to mean I was implying that I was a lecturer but no, that was not intended, I just meant I was making an observation, not trying to deliver a university standard lecture.
This quote comes from a critique of a book; Sexuality in Medieval Europe by Ruth Mazo Karras. It would be better to read it in context:

It does point out the difficulties of ‘seeing into the minds’ of ‘medieval’ folk, (and yes, the term medieval covers around 1000 yrs) but it does pick up on the western churches’ role, (within this timescale,) in an attempt to control people’s sexual behaviour…the subject of the OP:

“The main purpose of marriage was to reproduce although the church in the West placed limitations on when coitus was allowed. The liturgical calendar was full of feast and fast days on which marital intercourse was forbidden; in addition it was forbidden on Sundays and sometimes other days of the week. Couples were also not supposed to have sex during the woman’s menstrual period.”

You say I have yet to back up my contributions to this discussion…what do you want? What is the problem?
