Do any CAF members remember it? Richard Roundtree himself didn’t like it.

I saw the original movie in the theater, but I was overseas when the mini-series (7 made-for-TV movies) aired, and the movies never made AFRTS television.

Not much help, am I 😃

I remember watching one episode of the TV series. There was a gang of white guys that were posing as black guys when they left their demands on the phone, but Shaft knew they were really white because he used the term 'chine for “machine,” i.e. “car” when talking to them on the phone, which he said every black man should understand. When they didn’t understand what Shaft was talking about, he deduced they were white guys.

I saw that episode back in the 1970s, and I have no idea why I remember that scene, and yet don’t remember any algebra formulas I learned that same year.

And for the record, no black man I have ever asked has ever heard the term 'chine used for car. I suspect some white scriptwriter just made that up.

Or a black scriptwriter who was doing a double bluff.
