Today I was literally thrown into a discussion about religion. Some students from Campus Crusades of Christ came by to talk to me since I had filled out a form earlier in the year. They asked what denomination I was so I let them know that I had been raised Baptist but was in the process of converting to Catholicism.

We went over a pamphlet on salvation that they had with them and I shared my thoughts. The one girl kept asking me a lot of questions about Catholicism’s view on things and I did my best to answer. But I got a little stumped when she began the tough questions, like about purgatory.

So, after we had finished going over their pamphlet I gave them one I had. “The Catholic Church Has the Answer”, which is a booklet with questions many non-Catholics ask and answers given with biblical backup. I was very nervous as I am not used to sharing my faith. There was definitely a look of shock when I told them I was Catholic. They weren’t even sure if Catholics considered themselves Christians!

Please pray for those girls and pray that God will help them find His Truth and that the words of the booklet I gave will help them with their questions.

Also, please pray for me to be able to be more secure in my answers. Luckily, these girls were very nice and open and didn’t attack me in any way. Always nice to have discussions like that.

Just thought I’d share.🙂

go to the CA homepage and order Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth, and get a Catechism of the Catholic Church at any bookstore or online so you can read up on the Catechism references. this will give you ammunition for the most common questions you will face. In fact order POFPOT in bulk and hand them out to people who want to give you their own tracts and pamphlets.

Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth together with a book of quotations from the (now) late Pope John Paul II were my graduation presents from my CCD instructor.

It sounds like you did really well, Homewardbound. It’s really awkward at first, defending the faith, when you’re not used to it. Over time it gets easier!

I keep Catholics in my prayers always. 😉 Just study what the Church teaches and seek virtue!

That’s a great idea! I think I’m going to order some to give out.

Thanks for the tip. 😃

God Bless!

When you are asked a question where you are unsure of how to answer, just say that you are still in the process of learning and that you will study on it, find out the answer, and get back to them. It is in finding answers to difficult questions that has helped me grow in understanding of my Faith.

As Catholics, we may not know all the answers, but we know of others who can help us. Such as coming here to CAF.

God Bless

And remember what John Martignoni says that will help your confidence level:
  • There is nothing in the Bible that contradicts the Catholic Church, and there is nothing in the Catholic Church that contradicts the Bible. Absolutely nothing.
  • You have 2000 years of help on your side - there is an answer somewhere, it’s just a matter of finding it. With the great minds of all the Saints, including the great minds of today like Tim Staples, Jeff Cavins, Scott Hahn, Tim Gray, Fr. Pacwa, Fr. Groeschel, John Martignoni and lots more, we have a treasure of help to rely on when we get in tough spots.
    God bless you!

Did someone mention John Martignoni? 😃
He’s one of my favorites. Have all his talks on cassettes.
He’s great, and whenever I have a question that needs to be answered ASAP, he gets right back to me.

The man is truly a blessing!

God Bless.
