Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Hi,

I’ve got a question.

Suppose I come across a guy lying in the road after being fatally injured by a car. He’s got minutes left before he passes into eternity and he’s not saved. What do I need to say to this soul to ensure that he has a chance to be saved?

The good protestant would try to elicit a prayer of repentance and belief from the dying man. What would the good catholic do?

In Christ,
Matt

Thistle,

Well…

Is there some sense in which you would need to witness/share the Gospel a la Protestantism?

What saves a person. According to Protestant theology, it’s hearing the Gospel and repenting and believing in it. Consequently, the Protestant’s goal would be to present the Gospel (Repent and believe) and give the dying person the opportunity.

I was a Protestant for a long time. Now, because I felt called back to the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), I’ve returned to the Catholic Chruch. However,
I’m trying to figure out what the catholic equivalent to this formula would be.
