I don’t even watch cartoons, so it’s hard to make sense of this. But apparently, even kids’ cartoons can not be relied upon to be appropriate for kids.

From the Natl Catholic Register:

“Today’s She-Ra, like so much else, has lost its fun and innocence.”

“Noelle Stevenson, the reboot’s executive producer, has made no secret of her show’s progressive agenda. In November 2018, Stevenson told the magazine Queerty that she was “queering” the series. On a February episode of the podcast “She-Ra: Progressive of Power”, Stevenson goes into detail about the romantic relationship between two princesses, Spinerella and Netossa. She calls the couple a “bonded pair.” She promised that the second season would have more “lore” about them.”

I thought the original He-Man had totally gay overtones. She-Ra would have probably been the same way. I guess it was a more mature gayness in the 80’s. I guess the point of the article is to say that the current version is too immature. It sounds like it may be.

Something to keep an eye out for…but with that being said, any harm from exposure to questionable media is more the fault of parents than of the media itself. Never have quite figured out why so many lock their doors at night, but don’t monitor their children’s viewing habits.

Hardly news by now. Since before this new She-Ra came out, there had already been talks that it would be heavy in SJW and LGBTQ+ references.

Why do LGBTQ target kids? Do they want more people to end up sexually disoriented? This kind of thing is really evil. Leave the kids alone, and stop trying to confuse them with adult problems.

Sorry but I’m so tired of these people. How did this small and formerly insignificant minority become something we’re constantly talking about?

Given the ubiquity of electronic media monitoring your children’s viewing is a lot harder to do than physically locking your front door.

I would suggest that SJW is not at all the same thing as LGBT. The former has been misrepresented by its opponents. The “SJ” stands for “Social Justice” which most surely does not mean condoning homosexuality.

It is ultimately the responsibility of parents to buffer their children’s viewing habits, but it is becoming increasing difficult for parents to shield their children as many schools are introducing an “it’s ok” agenda and kids are exposed to it everywhere in and out of school. Parents or children in some cases, are even being identified as bigoted if they raise objections. I think the media and schools should also have some sense of morality, integrity, and accountability in shielding kids from this sort of stuff.

The target is LGBTQ kids. They know they are different and those those adults grew up without seeing someone that was like them. No matter the marginalized group, visibility and representation matters. I want to see more representation of disabilities, too; and not just as a plot device, but as regular characters.

I don’t entirely accept your hidden premise that children are LGBT, at least certainly not in the way adults are. And they don’t seem to be presenting this as a disability, but it definitely should be presented that way if and when it ever comes up in an appropriate context without being imposed on kids entertainment. The unrelenting agenda here is to “normalize” this problem as if it’s completely healthy. If a kid is starting to feel disoriented in this way then they are probably young enough that they don’t have to end up with a distorted sexuality. We should help them and not enable the problem or try to deny it.

I definitely agree that other disabilities should be presented, and I’d rather be talking about that than this all the time.

I didn’t say they were. I said I wanted more representation, including of people with disabilities. How often do you see a person in a wheelchair in a TV show that isn’t a plot device or in a commercial that isn’t for wheelchairs?

We’ve seen how well reparative therapy works and I’m relieved that it’s illegal in many places. The main agenda is letting young people know they are not alone. The isolation many experience until they found their tribe is significant.

And a lot of that “normalization” is about how being decent to others, that people who are different from you aren’t freaks you get to make fun of.

Again, being LGBTQ isn’t a disability, nor did I paint it that way. I used the context of visibility and representation and it applies to any marginalized group: LGBTQ, people with disabilities, POCs. People want to see others like themselves and not as the butt of a joke or something the pushes the plot forward.

This is why as parents it’s our responsibility to limit our children’s time watching tv, on the internet and on social media.
My kids know if there is something new they want to watch myself and/or my husband have to check it out first
( although hubby did let the transformers go on the allowed list and thanks to our old preist we have star wars on the allowed list too) of course there are some programmes that are catered to children that has adult undertones or themes.
And whilst it is becoming increasing important to allow our children to learn about This whole queer and transgender issue so they learn to accept those with differening opinions and do not judge them ( like pope francis said who am I to judge) it is a parents job to do so.
I would be mortified if my children learned about lgbtq2 from anyone other than my self or my husband just as I would be mortified about them learning about sex ed or puberty from anyone other than my self my husband or possibly a trusted adult ( ie my in laws if it pertains to a Catholic issue I don’t quite understand)

Here’s a couple of (secular) YouTubers discussing their distaste for the Netflix reboot:

He-Man is not gay!!! Next you will tell me Bert and Ernie are gay or Rob Halford is gay!

Joking aside, this is sad. Why is it so important to brainwash our youth? Let the parents be parents and raise their kids without having to worry about cartoons sending contradictory messages to what their parents and the Church teaches.

You make a good point. However I don’t think the networks should be subjecting our children to these kinds of subject matters in children’s programming. I agree the parents are definitely responsible for knowing what their kids are watching and doing but I also think the networks, media and other sources should not be making their jobs harder by putting this in children’s cartoons. We are not talking about a TV show on prime time, it is a cartoon geared towards children.

He-Man is not gay!!!
😅 I didn’t say he was. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 😀

You tergiversate on this topic to suit your bias, since I’ve seen you argue elsewhere in favour of the “fluid sexuality” theory. If that’s true, then preventive therapy should be effective, particularly among young kids, with all precaution to avoid undue interference with otherwise healthy development. Sexual disorientation is not healthy, and until we can remove the extreme politicization around this to recognize that, any legislation based on question-begging identity politics does not reflect a fair or objective assessment of effective treatment.

Hm. Since I’m not convinced of “fluid sexuality” I don’t know where you got that idea. Maybe you could link to one of those times. If you really think I did argue in favor of it I’m going to suggest that you don’t really know what that term means and how it differs from something I did argue in favor of.

I have no idea what you might be referring to.

Since LGBTQ persons can legally be excluded from obtaining housing or being hired for a job/being fired, and could be refused health care because being LGBTQ. I can’t minimize these to “identity politics.”

Wow. I thought the animation was pretty cheap, back in the 80’s, but the new version looks even cheaper. How is that possible? 😉 I thought I was looking at bad digital fanart.

Same characters, it seems:
