I’m looking for short stories about Angels. I read one in the Adoration Chapel years ago; but it has disappeared. Anyways, I was hoping my fellow Catholics might have something similar!

St Anthony, please intervened and show us good short stories about Angels. Amen

Does it have to be a print short story? Will a television show episode work for you? And does it have to be about known angels like St. Michel or St. Gabriel?

My favorite angel story is “Lisa the Skeptic.” It’s an episode of The Simpsons where Lisa (the little girl) digs up a concrete angel, and everyone believes it’s a real angel. Lisa, of course, is a skeptic, but she wants to believe. The talk that she has with her mother at the end of the episode is so touching. I won’t tell you whether the angel turns out to be real or not.

You can probably find the episode online somewhere. Here’s a link to a Wikipedia article.

I also love the Christmas story, “The Littlest Angel.” It’s about a small angel who comes along with the big angels to sing to Jesus when He is born in Bethlehem, but then she gets lost and wanders around earth giving away all her “heavenly” possessions to needy people. It’s such a good story!

Tobit (Tobias) in the Old Testament.

There was a guardian angel story in one of the episodes of the Twilight Zone. The synopsis I read was pretty good, since I can’t find the actual episodes.

Google for the archangel Raphael in the Book of Tobit. Then, read his prayer card to help you along.

I enjoy reading about St Pio and his guardian angel. There is a book by Fr Alessio Parente OFM Cap called “send me your guardian angel.”

Fr Alessio looked after Padre Pio and often was sleep deprived so after helping him to mass Fr Alessio would rush back to his cell to get a little sleep. His alarm didn’t work well but often he’d be woken by knocking on the door. Eventually he found out that this knocking was carried out by Padre Pio’s guardian angel!

If you look for “true angel stories”, there’s a ton of forum threads in lots of different places on the Internet.

There are also a number of anthologies. You might try ordering them from Interlibrary Loan if you don’t want to purchase something before you know you like it, or if the person who experienced certain events perceived them through a filter that doesn’t match your own filter of understanding, or if it flat-out skews New Agey.

So you might look into:

Angels among us: A collection of inspiring true angel stories

An Angel’s Touch: True Stories About Angels, Miracles, and Answers to Prayer

Touched by a Miracle: More True Stories About Angels, Miracles, and Answers to Prayer

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Angels and Miracles: 101 Inspirational Stories about Hope, Answered Prayers, and Divine Intervention

etc, etc, etc.

Dr. Peter Kreeft offers articles:

and his books “Angels & Demons”, “Heaven” are simply the best I’ve ever read on the topic.

With Dr Kreeft you can be sure the theology is sound. Be VERY careful, there is a ton of heretical, New Age, and simply drivel out there about the Angels.
