Shoud it be a crime to assist illegal immigrants?

Illegal immigration is a crime. It is a crime to assist a criminal in matters relating to his crime. For example, it is a crime to drive the get-away car in a bank robbery, or to hide and shelter the robbers afterwards.

There are three other considerations:
  1. Illegal immigrants are exploited. “Helping” them helps their exploiters.
  2. Drugs and other contraband are smuggled into this country following the same routes the illegals take. The vast mass of illegals gives cover, wittingly or not to this activity.
  3. If hispanics can filter through our southern border, so can terrorists.
 
I think it should be a crime to help illegal immigrants get into this country in any way. That would include providing false identification, shelter, etc.

Once they are here, people should not be penalized for giving a fellow human being aid. For example, a doctor needs to treat them; a teacher needs to teach them, etc.

Once illegal immigrants are here, we must treat them humanely. However, that does not mean I would not want them deported if they were involved in any crime.

If I am helping a fellow human being I would never think to ask if they are citizens. Our entire country is made up of people or descendants from every other country. Why would I single out any person and ask them? That would be racist.

I suppose that if you are an employer–the law says you better know.
 
It does not matter if it is a crime or not. You do what you can. Every law that has been made since the Carter administration has been a mockery of human decency and a cynical abuse of human rights. No honorable man even considers the law when faced with human problems.

The question is “Should it be a crime to assist illegal immigrants?” If you change that to employ, then my answer changes too. I don’t think employers should. If they didn’t, then the number of illegals would drop. People come here for work.
