This was part of the answer you gave to someone regarding how they should participate in mass while going through RCIA:

You can stand when the others stand, sit and kneel when the other kneel. It is to be noted that as a catechumen, you may leave after the homily and are not required to remain for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. If you do remain, you may not yet receive Holy Communion. You are in our prayers.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.

I am also in RCIA, but my priest tells us mass isn’t over until the procession with the crucifix and the priest have left the chapel and we shouldn’t leave until then. Is he just telling us that to get used to staying the entire time even if we can’t participate in the Holy Eucharist or is he wrong?

Dear JL,

In some parishes the catechumans are asked to leave at the end of the Liturgy of the Word. However, your pastor is correct with regard to those who are full members of the Church. They should remain as he said.
