For example if you want to take a psychology course online, is it okay to take if the teacher practices mindfulness meditation or other religious practices. I just want to learn from the course but find my instructor to be a little strange. He is not giving lessons on those practices.

How is he strange and how do his practices even come into play if he is not giving lessons on them? I would think that his religious practices are his personal business unless he is somehow making them part of his course work.

Hi,edjlopez23, Please do not do the (mindfulness meditation or other religious practices psychology course online.) There is no easy answer to this question, but one solution is to trace the lineage of mindfulness from early Eastern religions to its modern, secular presence in Western science. They cover mindfulness, its roots in Hinduism and Buddhism, how it relates to yoga, and how it came to be popular in so many circles in the Western world etc..All this leads to complete possession of evil spirits which will ruin your life, only a catholic priest exorcist can undo it .if you want to do a course in psychology which is pure science of study human behavior it ok ,but not mindfulness etc

Colossians 2:6-15 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

I just got a strange vibe from his stare. But I guess it’s okay the lessons that he is giving when you put it like that. However I do recall in Matthews 7:17-20 from USCCB.

17 Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 So by their fruits you will know them

Is that just for false prophets or teachers as well.

Yea I already know mindfulness meditation is wrong and I’m not taking it. I’m taking a course on emotional intelligence. I’m just wondering if its okay if the teacher is not catholic and may have done pagan practices.

Wat? I don’t know how religious or spiritual beliefs can bleed into a modern course on psychology. It’s a pretty rigorous discipline.

If he makes you uncomfortable, do not take his class. However, if a person goes to college and graduate school and takes dozens of classes, it would be pretty unrealistic to expect every professor to be a good Catholic and you would likely have teachers who follow many different religions as well as those who do not practice a religion and/or don’t believe in God. I personally can’t say that the professor’s religion ever affected my ability to learn subjects like math, physics, and statistics from him or her.

I think I’ll take the course. I probably was too quick to judge on the instructor. I guess I can’t be too picky.

If the professor starts pushing theology or spirituality on you, that would be one thing.

I mean, you might go over a study about meditation or whatever. But that isn’t about meditation in itself. It would be about like… meditation as it pertains to relaxation or something. A psychologist would be taking a step back to see how these things affect the mind and personality.

Hi @edjlopez23 It"s better if he or she is Catholic, but we cant expect always a Catholic around, please refer the verses ,as we get faith by listening to the Word of God or message of Jesus we receive the Holy Spirit ,just the opposite will happens, we will lose our faith or become lukewarm, when we listen to unwanted lecture or music, same thing happens,Eg when St Elizabeth greeted Mother Mary ,St Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit .like wise if unwanted or unholy person greets us or speak or lectures unwanted music we will get the evil spirit or rather get afflicted. As in Book of St James warns us of satanic knowledge or un-spiritual demonic wisdom. Jn 6:63 the word contains the spirit, when we listen we get effected. So finally i would say to be careful ,you have to discern,if you are getting any headaches or vomiting sensation after listing to him then you have to be warned. If he is too religious and staunch pagan believer, and keeps saying about strange practices then better to avoid him or look for some one else ,doesn’t matter if he is not catholic but who stick to his subject.

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

James 3:15
Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly,
unspiritual, demonic.

John 6:63
It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Luke 1:44 For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy.
Testing the Spirits

I John 4:4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming; and now it is already in the world. 4 Little children, you are from God, and have conquered them; for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and whoever is not from God does not listen to us. From this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error

1 Peter 5: 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.
1 Corinthians 6:12[ Glorify God in Body and Spirit ] “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

1 Corinthians 10:23
[ Do All to the Glory of God ] “All things are lawful,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.

God Bless

I’d actually be more comfortable now that I’m Catholic to mix in with people with different views than my own. Just my two cents.

There is nothing wrong with Mindfulness Meditation any more than an examination of conscience, or sitting in quiet and listening.

Don’t over react to the point you are afraid to breathe.

Ohhh. If you are taking a course on Emotional Intelligence you will be taking a course on Mindfulness. They are two sides of the same coin.

Nope, don’t waste your money.

Thanks for the heads up but is it the same? I don’t have too much knowledge on what is mindfulness but I know it derives from a pagan religion. I thought emotional intelligence was a psychological study.

I don’t see any bad history on emotional intelligence so far. It’s just a study in psychology or sociology.

I’m not sure about mindfulness, but as far as I know emotional intelligence is just a discussion of different skills in reading and understanding other people. Nothing wrong with it.
