Should alcohol consumption be allowed at parish meetings?

Nope. I’ve never been to a party of evangelical Protestants where alcohol was consumed. Absolutely not. I have no idea what you’re talking about. Perhaps this is the case with mainline Protestants?

It’s only in the last decade that evangelical Protestants have started relaxing their stand on alcohol. How interesting that they are also eliminating baptism and communion, along with any teaching about theology and doctrine. Just fluffy, happy-clappy, have-a-good-time church alternatives. This kind of slipshod “church” was one of the reasons my husband and I (and many other evangelical Protestants) left the evangelical church.
In our case, we became Catholic.

Maybe not if the party was organized by evangelicals. That’s why, around here, they like to go to parties organized by Catholics!

In regards to the OP. There is no reason to have alcohol at a parish meeting…But if everyone at a church meeting had one small glass of beer or wine even during the meeting the is abosolute no reason to say it is a bad thing.

I have read some posts on this board that indicate there are some people with very very immature views on Alcohol. I am convinced that some people are brainwashed (yes I use the word brainwashed) into thinking that alcohol is an evil. [Edited by Moderator] …indoctrinating people into the belief that alcohol is an evil is just asking for binge behavior.

Not to derail the subject but…

A nearby state…Wisconsin beer is interwoven into the cultural landscape…in many places in wisconsin not having beer at a church picnic or celebration would seem extremely odd.

The old saying is the Wisconsin state law that each town small or large MUST have at least 3 bars pers 100 residents.

I have found the above to be somewhat true…even the smallest villiages in Wisconsin have two bars, a Catholic Church and a post office…along with those dern Lutherans…who sometimes act more Catholic than the Catholics.

Funny you should mention this. I’m from Three Lakes, WI originally. 14 bars for 2,000 year round residents…though we do have a lot of tourism…
