Should catechumens attend Sunday Mass each week after their initiation ceremony into the Church and prior to receiving the Sacraments?

I believe that catechumens aren’t officially members of the Church until after their baptism. So thinking that they aren’t obligated to attend Mass each Sunday. Am I wrong? thanks in advance for answer.

I’m really not sure but i’d say, in certain way, yeah we are kinda obligated if we are serious about joining the Church. Plus, we might as well get in the habit of going every Sunday anyway because after we receive our full communion, it’ll definitely be an obligation 🙂

The modern word for Catechumen is “Catholic in Training” If a Catholic is required to attend mass and give thanks and worship to God on Sundays a “Catholic in Training” worth his/her salt should be practicing right?
Are we not called the “Church Militant”? Off course they should…training training makes perfection 😃

Catechumens are dismissed after the homily at Mass every Sunday to break open the Word, so yes they should attend Mass.

My precious husband who is now in RCIA takes the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and all Holy Days very seriously, as did I when I was in RCIA. He considers himself Catholic now regardless of not yet being in full communion with the Church, as did I.

Actually, catechumens ARE part of the Church. When they go through their Rite of Acceptance they become part of the order of catechumens.

Part of being a catechumen is learning to live as a Christian, an apprenticeship in the Christian way of life. For Catholic Christians this includes going to Mass.

What do you mean by “initiation?” They won’t be initiates until they’re baptized at the Easter Vigil.

If you are talking about after their “Rite of Acceptance,” the answer is YES – because they attend the Mass to hear the Word of the Lord, and are dismissed after the readings to discuss them with the RCIA Team.

I’m currently an RCIA candidate, and I attend Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of obligation, even though we are not “Breaking Open the Word” again until January 5th. Once we’re back in session we’ll be doing this every Sunday until the Easter Vigil. And we’ll still be meeting once a week after that until Pentecost.
