Whenever I see a poll that includes “born again christians” as one of the categories, I always wonder if I should identify as that. Every catholic who has been baptized is because we are born again (baptized), and most definately christians. I think Catholics should feel free to identify this way whenever we are asked this. 😃

Technically we’re also Creationists because we believe God created everything. 🤷

I’d say no for the surveys, because there, Born Again, means you belong to that subset of Protestantism. Just like Creationist is normally used to refer specifically to Young-Earth Creationists.

However, please, go right ahead if someone asks you if you’ve been born again. Nothing quite like a good theological quip!

I would, but the title has taken on a meaning in the vernacular tha isn’t identified with the Catholic Church. We ARE born again, but not the way others would, think of us.

A good analogy would be the way “marriage” is synonymous with “same sex civil union,” although SSCUs aren’t Sacramental. We can’t take back the word “marriage” from the secular realm, although “marriage” and “civil unions” aren’t the same thing.

For me absolutely not.

Yes I was born again through the waters of baptism, but the term Catholic seems to be more compelling since, by definition it means universal. Therefore it doesn’t sound exclusive.

Sorry but I think you have lost the meaning what “Born Again” means, Some Born again Christians don’t even believe in the Trinity of Christ. If you are a Catholic , that is what you are, mean what you say, and say what you mean.

Depends on what other categories are on the ballot. If Catholic was there , no issue. If raving atheist then born again christian is looking more appealing by the minute. If Gift of every woman’s dream was also on the list, it gets a lot harder as truth is important as well.

If the question is for the purpose of polling, and Catholic is an option, I would definitely choose Catholic…“Born Again” has, unfortunately, been hi-jacked, especially in the West, to refer to someone who is, most likely, an Evangelical or Fundamentalist Protestant. I know of some who refer to themselves as “born again” and they haven’t even been baptized.

In everyday speech however: Yes!

As Catholics we are born again by water and Spirit, as Our Lord taught, i.e. “the Bible way”.

I think to be truly born again, you must shed your own ego and take on your true identity as a child of God. For the most part, Christians including Catholics don’t do this. What they settle for is the moniker “born again” and incorporate Christianity into their ego. FWIW I am not claiming to have reached the born again goal yet.

I attended a training class once for people working in nursing homes. My local district nurse arranged my place on the course as I had just begun caring for elderly relatives and needed to know the lifting techniques, etc.

During a practical test where I had to pretend to change the continence pad of a very sweet Indian gentleman, he asked me “Are you Born Again?” “Heavens, no!” I replied as I pretended to wipe his bum “Just the once and - thank God - into a Catholic family!” 😃

Born again to Catholics means to be Baptized, following Christs’ words “Unless one is born again…” Born again to some of Protestant faiths means “Have you had an encounter with Christ” This usually implies a spiritual experience with Christ in faith. And it does apply. I always answer “Yes”

My friend I strongy disagree:)

The tern is a common tern for NON Catholic Christians who oppose many very important and solidly biblical ideas and philosophies.

One does an INJUSTICE to christ and His One TRUE Faith and church by accepting you’re recommendation.:o

God Bless you,
