Try to describe what God looks like. Oh wait, you can’t. Not even the word ‘beauty’ alone is theologically sufficient for the omnipotent. 😉
That doesn’t mean that there is no such thing as objective beauty. Or that the idea of beauty being objective means there can’t be any subjective element to it whatsoever. There is, in fact, a large subjective element to it, but it is ultimately objective.🙂

Oh dear, joke completely lost on you? Bob Seger?

“Today’s music ain’t got the same soul! I like that old time rock n’ roll!”

It’s a song. No one was being uncharitable. It was a joke! 😃
It’s one of my favorite “secular” songs … guaranteed to get me doing wheelies 🙂

Perhaps this has been mentioned in the thread before: but keyword to listening to any music: is it good, beautiful and true? If its is all of the three, it can point to God. If truth, goodness or beauty were missing… seriously start scrutinising the piece.

There is this electronic hardcore band from Canada called “Abandon All Ships”. I am not a fan of thier music, but according to this article below, while most of their songs allude to christianity, not every member of the band is christian. They also like to use alot of profanity in their music. As a matter of fact, in regards to there first studio album, a couple of people on itunes criticized the band for using this strong language since it is not what they did on their first ep. One of the counter commentors replied “What are we in kindergarten?!?!” Be that as it may, I do believe the profanity tarnishes the quality of thier songs, but that’s just me.

What is the definition of *non-*secular music?

Is that a category that only includes “hymns which are appropriate to the Mass?” Or is it broader?

Another thing I’m wondering about: what is “old time rock n’ roll” to Bob Seger? Because, to me, “old time rock n’ roll” is Bob Seger. LOL. 😛
