My sister in law has invited my family to celebrate her “baptism” as well as her 11 year old son’s “baptism” at a nondenominational church. She and her son stopped attending Catholic Mass soon after his first communion in the Catholic Church. I suspect that their Catholic faith was given only lip service prior to leaving the church. The separated husband and father of the boy is specifically hostile to the Catholic Church, although raised Catholic. She now attends the local mega church for the social support and the youth group. However she probably is learning more about Christ than she was willing to do before. The mother and son were validly baptised as Catholics. I understand that any attempt to baptise would be invalid. This has been built up as a big day for my 11 year old nephew. I would like to encourage his faith in Jesus. He will not be raised Catholic due to the choices of his parents. It seems to me that I should not attend the baptism service but I want to encourage his faith in Jesus by the only path made available to him.
