If Evening Prayer is the first prayer said in Liturgy of the Hours for the day, do I begin with the Invitatory? I work shifts & some days, evening is when I wake up & call it the beginning of my day.
No; even though you begin your day at night, it is objectively night. The Liturgy of the Hours is based on the way the day is in itself; not the way we approach it. The invitatory is for the first morning Hour that is recited.
