I was looking around for the faith and finances forum, but I think it’s gone. Anyway, I have been dealing with my finances recently and trying to get on a budget. I realized how much money, that God had been blessing me with, I was wasting. I’m trying to use my money more wisely now. That said, something has caught my eye recently in terms of something I’d like to buy; PlayStation 4.

Now I know it’s expensive. I also know it could be a distraction. But I’ve always really been into video games and would love to play some more often. My worry is that God won’t like me spending money on something like a PS4. On the other hand, maybe He would be fine with it, so long as I save for it and don’t break the bank for it; as well as doing other things to please him.

Any advice?

The Faith and Finances sub-forum is still here, it’s just that it’s in the archived section now, so I don’t think anyone can make any new threads there anymore. ^.^

As for u wanting a PS4, there’s certainly nothing wrong with that! XD
Yes, God wants us to grow in holiness and virtue and all that good stuff, but we are definitely free to set aside time to enjoy other extracurricular activities (in moderation) such as sports, video games, TV, etc…

So if u can afford it, and if it won’t cause any major financial difficulties from buying one, and if u are pretty confident that you’ll be able to use it in moderation and not get overly-addicted, then go right ahead and pick one up! 👍

Only you can know if such an expenditure is out of line with your budget, or if it is, what is a reasonable rate of saving for it.

This probably depends on how much you are giving back with your money. If you already are giving your 10% (5% to church, 5% to other charities), I don’t see an issue with splurging a little. At the same time you don’t want to waste your money. If there aren’t any good games you want to play now, that money is probably better served being given to charity. Charity doesn’t have to be the big commercial ones like the Red Cross. Maybe you know someone personally in need that could use the money. Common things would be car repairs, medical expenses, student loan debt, etc.

Id put the money towards a better computer if it were me. Some of the laptops they have out now are just incredible and are better for gaming anyway, plus you can use them for everything else too.

I used to play video games too, but outgrew it when I hit about 16 and started having other priorities, but to each their own, the last video game system I had was a playstation 1, someone bought me for christmas, but I ended up returning to the store, it would have just collected dust had I kept it.
