Should I consider religious life?

I’m married and the mother of one, stepmother to nine - all grown. I am completely miserable in my marriage and have nowhere to turn. I have been thinking off and on of religious life for myself for several years now but have never acted upon it. I don’t know if I’m thinking of this as an escape from a (sometimes) violent, loveless marriage or if I really should be considering this life?

Dear friend,

It sounds like you might need to live apart from such a problematic and potentially violent living situation–even if you never become a religious. Then after awhile, when you daily life is at least neutral, if you still find religious life appealing, you might make some inquiries regarding a possible religious vocation.
