Should I Donate Money For Traditional Alter Server Clothing

I noticed in a nearly all black parish they never wear white robes with hoods 🙂

In the parish I attend, the sacristy is huge and unfortunately, a great many people congregate there before Mass. It is there where I have been mistaken for a priest (which happens all the time) and more than once as a bishop as it is common for clerics to be in different stages of vesting in the sacristy while people wander in and out (sadly enough.)

I see. I wondered if it could have had something to do with people being in the process of vesting, but had just assumed that wouldn’t be “open to the general public.”
 
There is no official restriction on girls wearing the cassock and surplace. What most people go by is conformity if the boys wear it then they all wear it. However, I do like this idea that saome have mentioned about boys in cassocks and girls in albs.

As for the hooded alb - it is only supposed to be used by religious that vest in their habit it their habit is itself hooded. Those who do not have this problem are to used the regular alb with amice unless the alb is specifically designed to not need an amice. As far as albs are concerned I am a fan of the Roman Style albs which have a square collar and require and amice. the Sincture is a straight piece of matching fabric and not a knotted rope. They are very nice but also very warm.

First, there is no restriction on wearing hooded albs by anyone.

The cincture worn with a cassock is a flat piece of fabric. Sadly most people who want their servers vested in a cassock/surplice forget the cincture.

The most commonly worn cincture with an alb (even by priests) is a cord, not a flat piece of fabric. I think the flat fabric ones look far more formal, but some might suggest they are Anglican looking.

Finally when speaking of “Roman style/square collar” you are talking about surplices, not albs…
