I work in Saudi Arabia and my Hindu friend has asked for a Bible in Malayalam (Our local language) yesterday. I am only happy to get one for him. But there are a couple of concerns for me. He is an artist and recently I saw one of his very disturbing drawings. It involved something with satan worship. He’s not in any of those groups to the best of my knowledge and I think he drew it just like that. I don’t know why he asked for a Bible. If he asked to know more about God I happy to go to any extent to get him one. My worst fear is if he misuse the Bible. Kindly guide me.

I may be wrong here but I think it’s our responsibility to spread the word of God. It’s a kind gesture. Think back to Saturday’s Gospel reading - To love your brother as God has loved you. I think your willingness to get a bible for your friend and share the amazing word of God meets this commandment. I don’t think its for us to judge or assume the worst. Sadly if your friend decides to misuse the bible that would be on him alone.

I thought it was illegal to possess a Bible in Saudi
Arabia.

Things are bit lenient now. They dont question you at the airport if its only just one Bible.

Makes sense. So you suggest me to give him a Bible
Religious laws appear to quite fluid in that country at the moment, and I have no recent update. Non-Muslim propagation was (and maybe still is) banned. This might mean trouble for you if you give your friend a Bible, and your action is reported to the authorities. It might be better for you to consult with your local church, or with your consulate, for advice. Just a thought.

I suggest you abide by the law. The Bible, out of context of the Church, can be very confusing.

Phew, I don’t know man. It’s Saudi Arabia. You don’t want to get in trouble.

It’s always good to spread the gospel. You definitely should give him a Bible! 🙂

Regardless of enthusiastic comments here, please proceed with caution, @matjam, as Christians in your vicinity have been tortured and murdered. I admire you and pray for you. May you, all whom you love, and all the Christians in the Middle East remain safe, I pray. Keep your Guardian Angel close!

Yes, I wouldn’t break the law or endanger your life or your friend’s life by giving your friend a Bible.

I have a friend of mine who is a Protestant from Pakistan. But, she was really curious about Catholicism and even asked me to take her to Mass one day. It has been a habit since then. She attends Mass whenever she can in our campus. She sometimes will come with to the morning Mass in the church on opposite of our campus if her morning class gets cancelled. She spends time with me in the Adoration Chapel too. Taught her how to say the Rosary first (She asked me to teach her) and gifted her a Rosary. She said she loves reciting it (Remember: she’s a Protestant). She says that she lives that inner peace she feels after saying the Rosary or even after Holy Mass.
In your case, I would recommend giving the Bible (as a Christian, it is our duty to spread the good news u til the end of age). But also, walk with that person to the basics of Catholic Faith. See if they accept it. Moreover, ask the Holy Spirit what to do. Tell the Holy Spirit and pray for this person in particular for him to walk in the path of Christ.

Some people come to test the Lord and end up being converted to Christianity to follow Christ!
Pray for it first… Then go forth with your action as per the Spirit tells you to!

Does it have to be a physical Bible? why not a Bible in e-book form, preferably with Catholic commentary?
