So I just got out of a relationship that lasted about 5 months and as of now, i’m worried that i’m just not meant for marriage. I don’t mean this in a depressing sense because I know i’m a decent guy in spite of my struggles with mild anxiety ( probably brought on more by the fact that I suck at coping with stress) and a few other things, but I just wonder if maybe i’m just not meant to be married.
Being a man in his mid 20’s, I just finished my first job but was laid off and now i’m back home with my mother. While this isn’t bad, I don’t want to be stuck here for the rest of my life but i’m worried I will. I know this isn’t true but I feel like i’m just not able to be a success in life.
I also worry that I won’t be able to have a job to support a family, but my biggest issue is mu emotional health. Looking back at myself i’ve always had anxiety. Some of it has been social (though I think it was just normal awkward teenager stuff) but its mostly been worrying about things like whether i’m normal or whether i’m good enough to be married. I wonder now though if my anxiety will prevent me from ever being married or living a decent life.
I worry too because I feel like that all i’ll ever get out of my life is just being some nice churchy guy who can’t seem to get ahead. Sure i’m fairly faithful and am nice but I worry i just don’t have that something to put it all together. Anymore I wonder if God is calling me to just sit and watch and pray while others get married or go on to seminary. Its almost like i’m in an airport watching everyone leave while i’m just stuck being the Janitor or something.
I know that me wanting marriage doesn’t mean that i’m called but then why doesn’t God just allow me not to have that desire? I almost wish he could just tell me in a nice clear voice “Nocoast, i’m sorry but you aren’t meant for marriage” or “Nocoast don’t worry, it’ll happen. I can’t tell you when but it’ll happen.”
Thanks and God bless
