When you are officially welcomed into the Catholic Faith, the Priest will ask you if you believe in all of the teachings of the Catholic Church. I forget the exact wording, it’s been a few years back for me, but you’d have to be able to say “yes.” If you can’t say “yes” it’s a no-go.
**I agree with what you “say” but not what you mean. Respectfully, I think it disuades a lot of believers. I can most assuredly believe something is true and not agree with it. Some things I do, not because I agree but because I know the Church holds the truth even though I don’t have the faith or intellect to understand. **
Disagreement amounts to me thinking I “know” something that is different than what the Church teaches. I am smart enough and faithful enough to also know I do not UNDERSTAND (for emphasis only) all there is to know.
Important: This is also why people leave the Church. It is because they come to disagree with the Church and so they think they “know” the Truth. Should a person leave the Church if they have a momentary lapse of judgement? No, I don’t believe so. So they should not let a minor thing get in the way of joining either.
**You just have to agree that the Church possesses the Truth (with a capital “T”). **
Have you tried working out your issues? Getting your questions answered? There were things I didn’t fully understand… especially about Mary - she was my biggest stumbling block, so to speak, but I came to a place where I knew the Catholic Church had been given the authority by God so I would accept all she stood for, even if I didn’t understand everything 100%. I think there is a big difference between not understanding completly and downright disagreeing. Which catagory do you think you fall under?
