Should I participate?

A group of parishioners (some friends) are gathering to read and discuss the book “The Ecstasies of St. Francis” by John Ryan Haule. This is not a Catholic author and even though this particular book may be good, I have concerns about others. (see “Perils of the Soul: Ancient Wisdom and the New Age”) My questions are: Should I pay my $18.00 to get the book and participate or not? Am I being silly?

I am not familiar with either book, but I would go to Amazon.com and read the reviews for each book. That might give you some insight into the quality of the books.
