I went to confession not too long ago and twice during confession the priest mentioned spiritual direction. I did not respond to his bringing it up. Do you think this means that he is open to that type of relationship? Should I bring it up? or should I wait for him to mention it again and then go from there? No experience with this but at this point in my journey, it might be helpful.
Thanks

…with a director who thinks with the Church…such can be helpful.

I would ask him. If he cannot be your spiritual director,
he should be able to help you find one.

From my experience, spiritual direction has been a true blessing to me!! 😃

I would go ahead and ask him. And if he can’t be your Spiritual Director I would ask who he recommends.

Spiritual Direction has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. My life as a Catholic is greatly enrichened because of Spiritual Direction.

Pray to the Holy Spirit to lead you to a good Director.

God bless.

Hi ermcma,

I would recommend that you first read Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales. There are some that recommend you keep your confessor as your confessor and your spiritual director as your spiritual director.

Peace, Graubo

I think there is no harm having your confessor as your spiritual director. I pray you opt for the really worthwhile experience of spiritual direction.

No harm at all, I seem to be surviving and thriving quite well. In fact I would recommend having your Spiritual Director as your Confessor.

God bless.

Actually, I find that having my confessor & spiritual director be the same person is the best arrangement for me.
Having a confessor who know me well, and my pathologies has made all the difference in my confession experiences.

I highly recommend spiritual direction. Pursue it, absolutely, whether the priest you confessed to becomes your spiritual director or not, he’ll at least have some recommendations.

Congrats if you have priests willing to do that. Here in VA its hard to find priest who will do that. To busy running the parish. The younger priests cannot do it until they have been a priest five years.

Absolutely. You should try and find a spiritual director. It does not necessarily have to be that priest, but you should try and find one.

Spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament and ask the Holy Spirit to inspire your mind. Then pick a priest and ask. If it doesn’t work out, don’t despair! Simply seek out a new priest.

Best of luck!
