I agree with your point.
I know you are just quoting when you say, “knowing your ‘enemy’.”
I think we need to be careful, however, with word choice. ‘Enemy’ is such a strong word. We really shouldn’t be thinking of others as ‘enemies,’ nor should religion and reason be at war with each other.
I absolutely agree. I think Father Corapi continues on to talk about having a positive attitude toward ecumenism, and how much he loves our Protestant brothers and sisters.

I believe that God meets us where we are. We owe the same respect to others, whether we are of the same theology or not. It makes for far more rational, intelligent and charitable discussion if we are willing to ‘bother’ to make the effort and take the time to do a little reading and research. It is crucial to know what we have and are as Catholics first. We can address others more fairly if we understand what they embrace in their Faith. Understanding does not imply agreement, but, respect. We earn respect by giving it to others.

I have found that, just as many people have misconceptions about the Catholic Faith, many also have a similar lack of knowledge of the religion or denomination they claim to embrace. To be truly fair, there are many Catholics who don’t adhere to or understand Catholic teachings.

‘Enemy’ is a poor word choice. Perhaps, ‘competition’ would be better. Opposing theologies compete for our attention and fidelity, either consciously or unconsciously. They are there as options, choices we can make - better, if we are well informed. I am a recent convert to Catholicism. It is a choice I made after serious consideration, and I am still learning.
