This is what I have been doing. Really, some of the books for young adults have a much better plot because they don’t resort to sex and swearing and have to come up with an acutal plot! However, I have noticed a trend lately - pooh-poohing religion. This is alarming to me. Also, taking Jesus’ name in vain is appearing a lot more too in young adult books. I love reading the Miss Read books and some of the older mystery books. Going back to the really early books you can see much better writing just because it isn’t the rubber-stamp of jumping in and out of bed with everyone and endless, pointless cursing.to the OP, you might like Dean Koontz’ books. They are mystery, terror and suspense, and he is a Christian I believe. His villains can be pretty villainous, enough that I have to skip some of those scenes, but the rest is good.
There are other good books which aren’t offensive: classics like The Prince and the Pauper, Jane Eyre, C.S. Lewis’ space trilogy. I get some of my books out of the Young Adult section, because some of them are pretty good and tend to be cleaner. For some reason people think a novel for adults has to have sex and swearing in it.
